It is considered as one of the most affordable Encyclopedia of Literature in the market today. Although this book is not considered exhaustive by some, it still outnumbers the other best seller Benet's Reader's Encyclopedia in the coverage it offers. This is truly a worth reference tool for folks in literature. just be cautioned that some of the entries have been treated shabbily with content directly taken from the dictionary and are very brief. This Encyclopedia comes with 3500 articles written from Mythology to Ancient African religions to Taoism. One of the shortfalls when any book ventures in to the hotly debated area of Religion, is that it WILL be biased and potentially misrepresent some religions based on the knowledge of the editors. Although this is a good read you may want to refer on more native, regional books for more unbiased information. On the positive front this is book is very illustrative with 32 pages of illustrations. The other positive is the coverage it offers on the new religions which is an eye opener for a few of us. Webster's New World Pocket Encyclopedia Encyclopedias are naturally big volumes with tons of data provided in a single volume or in multiple volumes. But this is the distant cousin that offers utmost portability. This paperback is just around 2 pounds easy to carry around for that quick references. Don't be fooled by the size it is packed with 16,000 entries on multitude of topics with helpful graphs, maps and tables. This book also contains information on both domestic events as well as the International events. Merriam Webster's Collegiate Encyclopedia A thoroughly cross referenced superb reference made possible by the combined effort of both the Encyclopedia Britannica and the Webster's. This is a 4 pound 1792 page volume that packs close 25,000 entries in both a concise fashion as well obviously concerned with the here and now, current, up-to-date presentation of material. Since this is a single volume power packed with numerous entries it just gives you the information that you would typically want to know. Provides a very good starting point for most topics at hand.
