Dialects of English Language

As a result of the expansiveness of British and the Americans, English has spread around the globe. It is now the third most spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and Hindi. Due to its global property, it has also bred a variety of English dialects. The following dialects are known:

United Kingdom: English English, Highland English, Mid Ulster English, Scottish English, Welsh English, Irish English.
United States: AAVE (Ebonics), American English, California English, Hawaiian English, Southern American English, Spanglish/Chicano English.
Canada: Canadian English, Newfoundland English, Quebec English.
Oceania: Australian English, New Zealand English.
Asia: Hong Kong English, Indian English, Malaysian English, Philippine English, Singaporean English, Sri Lankan English.
Others: Bermudian English, Caribbean English, Jamaican English, Liberian English, Malawian English, South African English, Miscellaneous, Basic English, Commonwealth English, Globish, International English, Plain English, Simplified English, Special English, Standard English.

The above major dialects of English have sub-dialects like Cockney within British English, African American Vernacular English within American English etc. English is considered a pluricentric language, with none of the dialects or forms accepted as only standards.

English dialects are many, accents are numerous. Due to wide usage of the language, the accents and dialects help in identifying the speaker’s native dialect or geographic location. Under each of the above mentioned dialects of the English language there are characteristic regional dialects and accents.

Most regional languages around the world, when spoken, use a lot of English words integrated into them which implies the bilingual origins of the English language and its habit of lending and borrowing words.
